Today, the Senate Armed Services Committee advanced the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2026 with a vote of 26-1. The bill will now proceed to the Senate floor for further consideration.
Chairman Roger Wicker commented on the significance of the legislation: “Today, the United States is operating in the most dangerous threat environment we have faced since World War II. The bill my committee advanced today is a direct reflection of the severity of that threat environment, as well as the rapidly evolving landscape of war. My colleagues and I have prioritized reindustrialization and the structural rebuilding of the arsenal of democracy. Accordingly, we have set forth historic reforms to modernize the Pentagon’s budgeting and acquisition operations. Senator Reed’s partnership shows the bipartisan support for doing more to maintain deterrence and protect American interests. I look forward to advancing the bill toward final passage to secure President Trump’s Peace Through Strength agenda.”
Ranking Member Jack Reed emphasized its importance: “This year’s NDAA is a critical, bipartisan measure that ensures our military remains prepared to meet the growing and complex challenges of a dangerous world. From rising tensions in the Indo-Pacific to renewed aggression from Russia and the persistent threat of terrorism and cyberattacks, the United States faces a global security environment unlike any in recent memory. This legislation invests in servicemembers, technology, and capabilities we need to deter our adversaries and defend our national interests. I thank Chairman Wicker and our colleagues on both sides of the aisle for advancing this bill to prioritize safety and security of American people.”
