Mark Price and Antonio Murchison, both members of the Wellington Park gang, have been sentenced for their roles in the murder of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson. The U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced that Price will serve 50 years in prison, while Murchison received a 72-year sentence.
The two men were found guilty on September 3, 2024, of first-degree murder while armed and other charges including conspiracy to commit a crime of violence and participation in a criminal street gang. They were also convicted on counts related to obstruction of justice and assault with intent to kill while armed.
Quanisha Ramsuer was also found guilty of obstruction of justice connected to the investigation into Wilson's murder.
The incident occurred on July 16, 2018, when Price and Murchison drove with three others to the Clay Terrace neighborhood. Armed with guns, they opened fire indiscriminately in the courtyard area. Makiyah Wilson was killed by stray bullets as she sat on her home's front stoop; several others were injured during the attack.
Chief Pamela Smith from the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in announcing these sentences. Both officials praised the investigative work conducted by the Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. Special commendations were given to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Laura Bach and Natalie Hynum for prosecuting this case.
