An immigration enforcement operation by ICE Boston has resulted in a federal charge against Antonio Gonzales, a 53-year-old Dominican national. Gonzales, who was previously deported and has convictions for weapons and drug offenses, was indicted by a federal grand jury for unlawfully reentering the United States.

ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers arrested Gonzales on May 7. Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director of ICE ERO Boston, stated, "Antonio Gonzales has not only been previously removed from the U.S., he also has convictions for weapons and drug crimes." She emphasized that Gonzales posed a threat to New England communities and reiterated ICE Boston's commitment to public safety by targeting criminal aliens.

Gonzales was initially deported to the Dominican Republic on September 15, 2004. His criminal record includes convictions for possession of a weapon in March 1994 and possession of a controlled substance in November 2000. He allegedly returned to the U.S. after his deportation in 2004.

If convicted, Gonzales could face up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Additionally, he would be subject to deportation after serving any sentence.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts is handling the prosecution.

The public is encouraged to report crimes or suspicious activities by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or submitting an online tip form.
