Hartford Bakery, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of six lots of its “Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf” due to the presence of undeclared hazelnuts. This action follows an earlier release and includes additional lot codes. The bakery warns that individuals with nut allergies or severe sensitivity to hazelnuts could face serious health risks if they consume the affected bread.
The company is recalling all units within twelve specific lot codes. Distribution of the recalled products occurred across several states including Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama, and Mississippi at retailers such as Kroger and Walmart.
The recalled product is packaged in flexible plastic bags with distinct markings: specific lot codes on the front panel, a net weight of 12 ounces (340 grams), a UPC code on the bottom, and an expiration date on the front panel. The issue was identified when visible hazelnuts were found in approximately 883 loaves from six production lots. These loaves were mistakenly packaged in bags labeled for white bread that only indicated a possible presence of tree nuts but not specifically hazelnuts.
No major injuries or illnesses have been reported so far; however, one customer experienced digestive discomfort after consuming the bread. There have also been complaints from consumers who noticed nuts before eating the product.
Consumers are advised to return any affected products to their purchase location for a full refund. Questions can be directed to Hartford Bakery by calling 1-812-425-4642 during business hours from Monday through Friday.
