Today, the House Appropriations Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Subcommittee convened to review its Fiscal Year 2026 bill. The Subcommittee approved the measure.
Energy and Water Development Subcommittee Chairman Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN) stated, "The FY26 Energy and Water bill demonstrates our commitment to safeguarding U.S. national security, unleashing American energy dominance, and advancing our economic competitiveness—in a fiscally responsible manner." He noted that the recommendation totals $57.3 billion, which is $766 million less than Fiscal Year 2025. Fleischmann highlighted that the bill provides strong support for national defense with $25.3 billion allocated for the National Nuclear Security Administration, marking an increase of $1.2 billion above FY25.
The bill also allocates $7.7 billion for Department of Energy cleanup activities to address contaminated sites. It strengthens energy security with $1.8 billion designated for base nuclear energy programs and additional funding for advanced nuclear reactors and small modular reactors.
Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) remarked, "Today’s measure is a cornerstone of American energy dominance." He emphasized that under President Trump’s leadership, there is a renewed focus on lowering energy costs and securing affordable power for the nation.
