Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced the sentencing of Jarrod Carter, a 30-year-old New Orleans resident, to 97 months in prison for possessing firearms as a felon. Carter had pleaded guilty to two counts under Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8). Following his imprisonment, Carter will be on supervised release for three years and must pay a $200 special assessment fee.
Court records indicate that in January 2023, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) received a complaint about individuals brandishing firearms and distributing narcotics on Mandeville Street. The Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force (TFO) and NOPD officers identified Carter as possessing a loaded Taurus .40 caliber handgun with an obliterated serial number and a loaded Springfield AR-15 style rifle. As a convicted felon, Carter is prohibited from possessing firearms.
