Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook has announced the conviction of Charles Logwood, a 34-year-old military veteran from Houston, Texas, by a federal jury in Monroe. Logwood was found guilty on charges related to drug trafficking and firearms possession.
The indictment against Logwood, issued in February 2024, included charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking offense. The jury delivered a guilty verdict on all counts.
The case stemmed from an investigation initiated in 2023 by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Logwood was suspected of supplying methamphetamine to individuals in the Monroe area. In August 2023, authorities received information about his plans to exchange methamphetamine for cash in Monroe. Surveillance operations were conducted by the Monroe Police Department, Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, and federal agents.
Logwood's vehicle was identified through physical surveillance, leading to a traffic stop where officers detected the smell of marijuana. Upon inquiry about weapons in his car, Logwood admitted to having a gun.
A search uncovered a Taurus pistol under the seat and significant cash on Logwood's person. Additionally, approximately 1.5 kilograms of marijuana and crushed Percocet pills were found inside his vehicle alongside around 4.5 kilograms of high-purity methamphetamine.
Following these findings, Logwood was arrested and now faces substantial prison time—ranging from 10 years to life for methamphetamine trafficking—and fines up to $10 million.
The DEA led this investigation with support from multiple agencies including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives; Monroe Police Department; and Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys J. Aaron Crawford and Daniel J. Vermaelen prosecuted the case.
This conviction is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) initiative aimed at dismantling major criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking across the U.S., utilizing combined efforts from various law enforcement entities.
