House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer has issued a statement following Annie Tomasini's decision to plead the Fifth Amendment during her deposition. Tomasini, who previously served as Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Oval Office Operations, is the third witness in an investigation concerning alleged cover-ups related to President Biden's cognitive decline and unauthorized executive actions.
Comer expressed concern over a pattern of key Biden confidants choosing not to answer questions that could implicate them in potential conspiracies. "Today, the third witness in our investigation into the cover-up of President Biden’s cognitive decline and unauthorized executive actions pleaded the Fifth Amendment," said Comer. He further stated that it appears these individuals prefer to protect themselves and President Biden rather than disclose information about what he describes as a historic scandal.
During her deposition, Tomasini declined to answer whether she had been instructed by Joe Biden or anyone at the White House to lie about his health. She also refused to comment on whether she advised on handling classified documents found at Biden's residence or if she was involved in concealing such materials.
The committee has faced obstacles in obtaining testimonies from other senior aides like Anthony Bernal and Ashley Williams, with reports suggesting they created "a protective bubble" around President Biden. Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s personal physician, has also been blocked from testifying by the White House.
In connection with an investigation into mishandling classified documents, it was revealed that Tomasini visited the Penn Biden Center earlier than reported by the White House to take inventory of documents related to President Biden.
