New Orleans man sentenced for possession of stolen mail and USPS key

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson has announced the sentencing of Wayne C. Walker, a 28-year-old resident of New Orleans, for charges related to possession of stolen mail and an unauthorized postal service key. Walker was sentenced on July 10, 2025, after pleading guilty to the unlawful possession and use of a United States Postal Service "arrow" key, as well as possessing approximately 80 pieces of stolen mail.

The arrest occurred on January 26, 2022, when Walker was found with both the postal key and stolen mail. U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan handed down a sentence that includes three years of probation, 100 hours of community service, and a $200 mandatory special assessment fee.

Simpson acknowledged the contributions made by the United States Postal Inspection Service, Office of the Inspector General, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in their investigation. The prosecution is led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jon Maestri from the General Crimes Unit.
