Cocaine worth over $529K seized by CBP officers at Laredo Port

LAREDO, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry seized cocaine valued at over $529,000 this weekend.

Port Director Alberto Flores stated, "Our frontline CBP officers continue to deploy an effective combination of experience and technology that contributed to the realization of this cocaine seizure." He added, "Continued seizures like these underscore the seriousness of the drug threat and our commitment to keeping our border secure."

The incident took place on Saturday, July 19, at World Trade Bridge. A CBP officer directed a tractor trailer for further inspection. During both nonintrusive and physical examinations, officers found 15 packages containing 39.68 pounds of alleged cocaine in the vehicle.

The estimated street value of the narcotics is $529,848. The CBP seized both the drugs and the tractor. Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested the driver and started a criminal investigation into the matter.
