U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry detained a man wanted for an alleged sexual crime against a child. The apprehension occurred on July 19 at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge, where CBP officers referred Miguel Maldonado, a 51-year-old U.S. citizen, for secondary inspection.
Port Director Alberto Flores commented on the incident: “Our officers remain steadfast in their commitment to protecting our communities.” He added that the detention underscores the dedication and vigilance of frontline officers in identifying dangerous individuals.
During secondary inspection, biometric verification through law enforcement databases revealed Maldonado had an outstanding felony warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child issued by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office in San Antonio, Texas. In Texas, this offense is classified as a first-degree felony. Maldonado was handed over to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office to await criminal proceedings.
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) plays a key role in sharing information among law enforcement agencies about outstanding warrants for various offenses. Using NCIC data, CBP officers have previously arrested individuals wanted for crimes such as homicide, robbery, and narcotics distribution.
Criminal charges are allegations; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
