A Colorado man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for drug trafficking charges, according to U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme. Moises Zamora, 40, from Greely, Colorado, was found guilty by a federal jury in Billings in October 2024 of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Zamora's previous federal conviction in Montana for a similar charge resulted in a ten-year sentence. This recent case was presided over by U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters.
The incident leading to Zamora's arrest occurred on November 11, 2022. A Yellowstone County Sheriff’s deputy noticed suspicious behavior from Zamora at a convenience store parking lot in Billings. When approached by the deputy, Zamora attempted to flee, initiating a high-speed chase that reached speeds of up to 80 mph and ended when he drove into a dead end.
During the investigation following his arrest, law enforcement discovered two fentanyl pills and approximately six pounds of methamphetamine in Zamora's car. The methamphetamine seized is equivalent to around 21,744 doses.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Colin Rubich prosecuted the case with assistance from the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, Eastern Montana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, and FBI.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities.
