House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer has issued a subpoena to Ghislaine Maxwell for a deposition scheduled at the Federal Correctional Institution Tallahassee on August 11, 2025. The Department of Justice is assisting in facilitating this deposition.
The decision follows a motion by Representative Tim Burchett, which was adopted by voice vote during the Government Operations Subcommittee hearing. Chairman Comer emphasized the public interest and scrutiny surrounding both Maxwell's and Jeffrey Epstein’s cases.
Chairman Comer stated, “The facts and circumstances surrounding both your and Mr. Epstein’s cases have received immense public interest and scrutiny." He mentioned that earlier this year, the Committee requested information from the U.S. Department of Justice regarding documents related to Epstein's investigation and prosecution.
Reports suggest that Maxwell is willing to speak with Congress about Epstein’s criminal activities. Additionally, President Donald Trump directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce relevant grand jury testimony related to the case.
Comer stressed the importance of congressional oversight in federal enforcement of sex trafficking laws and noted that Maxwell's testimony could inform legislative solutions to improve efforts against sex trafficking.
