U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers stationed at the Progreso/Donna Port of Entry have intercepted methamphetamine valued at over $803,000 in a recent operation. The discovery was made during an inspection at the Donna International Bridge.

Port Director Michael Martinez commented on the event, stating, “As summer travel traffic remains steady, our frontline CBP officers continued to apply their vigilance, experience and technology, resulting in this significant methamphetamine interception.” He emphasized that such seizures are vital to their border security mission.

The incident took place on July 22 when a 26-year-old Mexican citizen driving a 2008 Saturn Vue was subjected to a secondary inspection. Officers employed CBP canines and a nonintrusive inspection system during the examination, uncovering 84 packages containing approximately 89.90 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside the vehicle.

The street value of the narcotics is estimated at $803,692. The drugs and vehicle have been confiscated by CBP. Homeland Security Investigations special agents have arrested the driver and commenced a criminal investigation.
