Senator Rick Scott, chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, has issued a statement in recognition of the 60th anniversary of the Older Americans Act (OAA). He is advocating for the passage of new bipartisan legislation to renew and enhance its programs. The OAA has been vital in providing nutrition, social services, and health programs for older adults over the past six decades.

The proposed updates to the Older Americans Act aim to strengthen program integrity, promote innovation and flexibility, enhance support for family caregivers and direct care workers, and expand services for Tribal elders and older Americans with disabilities.

Rick Scott stated, “I rise today to recognize the 60th anniversary of the passage of an essential piece of legislation – the Older Americans Act. As the chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging and Senator from Florida, I am committed to honoring and supporting the more than 59 million older Americans who enrich our communities."

Scott emphasized that seniors thrive when they are active community members and receive adequate support. "This historic bill provided the supportive, community-based framework that has helped generations of seniors age with dignity," he said.

He also highlighted how the act impacts over 10 million older Americans annually by promoting social connection and contributing to nutritional services, continued education, and transportation programs. "It has improved life expectancy, health outcomes, and quality of life for millions of seniors," Scott noted.

Senator Scott is working alongside Senator Bill Cassidy from Louisiana to lead efforts for reauthorization. "I will continue to fight for the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act," he declared.
