Coventry man pleads guilty to child pornography and exploitation charges

A Coventry man has confessed to charges related to child exploitation and pornography while on pre-trial release for a similar offense. Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced the guilty plea of Scott P. Hickey, 46, who admitted to several charges including possession, distribution, and exploitation of a minor.

In June 2019, Hickey was indicted after law enforcement found 164 images of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on his cellphone. While awaiting trial in 2023, he further exploited a minor female by live streaming or recording explicit activities. A forensic audit later uncovered at least 572 images of CSAM on his device.

Hickey's sentencing is scheduled for October 23, 2025. The sentence will be determined by a federal district judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.

Assistant United States Attorney Paul F. Daly, Jr., is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by FBI agents from Providence and Washington, DC.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse across the nation. The project involves federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.
