W.W. Industrial Group, Inc., based in New York, has issued a recall for its Parashore Pear Slices in juice due to potential contamination with elevated levels of lead and cadmium. The product is packaged in 15 oz cans and distributed through Grocery Outlet stores in California and other locations across the United States.
Lead and cadmium are toxic substances found naturally in the environment. Symptoms of heavy metal poisoning include abdominal pain, vomiting, lethargy, irritability, weakness, behavior or mood changes, delirium, seizures, and coma. Children are particularly vulnerable to chronic exposure which may lead to learning disabilities and developmental delays.
