Senegal has become the 56th nation to sign the Artemis Accords, marking a significant step in its space exploration efforts. The signing took place at NASA Headquarters, with Maram Kaïré, Director General of the Senegalese Space Studies Agency, representing Senegal. Present at the event were Jonathan Pratt, Senior Bureau Official for African Affairs, and Brian Hughes, NASA Chief of Staff.

The United States and Senegal have maintained a strong partnership since 1960. This new development is expected to further enhance Senegal's space capabilities and promote economic growth through innovation. By joining the Artemis Accords, Senegal aligns itself with other countries committed to peaceful space exploration.

The Artemis Accords were established in 2020 by the United States and seven other nations as guidelines for responsible space activities. With this agreement, Senegal joins a coalition that includes Angola, Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia among others. The U.S. Department of State and NASA are key players in promoting these accords internationally.
