U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), the Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, has expressed concerns regarding the Trump Administration's proposal to reorganize the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Klobuchar emphasized that such a significant reorganization could affect USDA's capacity to deliver essential services and undermine its expertise relied upon by farmers and families. She noted, "A reorganization of this scale will impact USDA’s ability to provide critical services to Americans and undermine the Agency’s trusted expertise that farmers and families count on."

The senator raised doubts about whether the administration had fully considered the potential impacts on research and services for farmers and rural communities, especially after recent staffing reductions. "I have serious doubts that the Administration adequately considered the impact of this move on research and on services for farmers and rural Americans, particularly after the loss of over 15,000 employees in the past six months," she stated.

Klobuchar also highlighted ongoing challenges faced by farmers due to high tariffs, cuts in SNAP benefits, and reduced research grants. She called for congressional oversight before any further actions are taken: "We must have an immediate hearing before more damage is done.”
