U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, expressed his support for U.S. Army Captain Richard Topping's confirmation as Chief Financial Officer at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Senate confirmed Topping's nomination with a 51-47 vote.
Senator Moran praised Captain Topping's commitment to veterans and highlighted his willingness to serve in this new role. "I am grateful to Captain Topping for his willingness to continue serving his fellow veterans in this new capacity," said Sen. Moran. He emphasized the importance of working together to enhance the lives of veterans and their families both in Kansas and nationwide.
Before the vote, Senator Moran addressed the Senate floor, urging his colleagues to confirm Captain Topping swiftly.
Captain Topping has a military background, having served in the U.S. Army. During his testimony before the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, he discussed how the VA had significantly impacted his life by caring for his sister who fell ill while serving in Iraq and supporting his grandfathers' education through the G.I. Bill after World War II.
