The Stimson Center has expressed its approval of the appointment of John K. Hurley as Under Secretary of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Brian Finlay, President and CEO of the Stimson Center, acknowledged Hurley's contributions to the organization.
“The work of the Stimson Center has benefited immeasurably from the counsel and support of John Hurley, and we are grateful to John for his commitment to the Stimson Center in our shared pursuit of global stability, national security, and foreign policy,” said Finlay.
Hurley's experience is expected to aid him in his new role. “John is a great American who brings a deep record of service to the United States together with strategic, undaunted approaches to some of our most complex global challenges. The combination is sure to serve him well as Under Secretary of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, and we wish him all the very best as he embarks upon this new chapter for American national security and global leadership,” added Finlay.
Hurley joined the Stimson Center Board in April 2024. His career includes roles such as Managing Partner at Cavalry Asset Management and TGK Ventures in San Francisco. He graduated from Princeton in 1986 with honors and served five years in the US Army, earning a Bronze Star during the First Gulf War.
The Stimson Center focuses on international security through research, engagement, and policy innovation. Founded during the Cold War's end, it remains influential on global issues today.
