Anthony McNair, 36, of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 42 months in prison for a stabbing incident that took place at the DC Central Detention Facility on October 11, 2024. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

McNair pleaded guilty on January 27, 2025, to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon related to the jail stabbing. Judge Judith Pipe of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia handed down the sentence on July 28, 2025.

According to evidence presented by the government, McNair attacked another inmate, Tyjuan McNeal, age 28, using a sharp object in what appeared to be an unprovoked assault. Surveillance footage from the facility showed McNair repeatedly stabbing McNeal while holding a sharp white object and pulling a shirt over McNeal’s face during the attack. The incident ended when a correctional officer intervened. McNeal suffered multiple stab wounds and was transported to the hospital.

At the time of this assault, McNair was awaiting sentencing for his role in several armed robberies involving Brinks armored cars in Washington, D.C., which occurred between late 2021 and early 2022 and resulted in losses totaling about $1.2 million. For those crimes, he was sentenced on March 26, 2025 by U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth to more than three decades in prison. His co-defendants received sentences of over five decades and eighteen years respectively.

The new sentence will be served consecutively with any other sentences currently imposed on McNair.

Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in announcing the sentencing decision.

"In announcing the sentence, U.S. Attorney Pirro and Chief Smith commended the work of those who investigated the case from the Metropolitan Police Department. They also acknowledged the work of Assistant U.S. Attorney Ariel Lieberman, who prosecuted the case."
