St. Louis County man pleads guilty to selling drugs to undercover officer

A St. Louis County man has admitted to selling fentanyl and methamphetamine to an undercover police detective, according to federal authorities.

Stephon Murphy, 29, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one count of distribution of methamphetamine and three counts of distribution of methamphetamine and fentanyl. Prosecutors said Murphy sold the drugs to a detective with the St. Charles County Regional Drug Task Force during four separate transactions.

Court documents state that on May 24, 2024, Murphy sold 111.8 grams of methamphetamine in the parking lot of an apartment complex in St. Louis County. On June 13, he sold 113.6 grams of methamphetamine and 8.58 grams of fentanyl at the same location. The following month, on July 11 outside another apartment building in St. Louis, Murphy provided the detective with 113.3 grams of methamphetamine and 3.9 grams of fentanyl. The final sale occurred on August 7 at the same building, where Murphy sold 112.3 grams of methamphetamine and 14.4 grams of fentanyl while carrying what appeared to be a pistol with a drum magazine concealed in his pants.

Murphy is scheduled for sentencing on October 30 and faces up to twenty years in prison for each count.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the St. Charles County Regional Drug Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Rebar is prosecuting.
