U.S. Attorney’s Office joins Rhode Island communities for National Night Out

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island will participate in National Night Out events across several cities and towns in Rhode Island on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. The initiative aims to bring together law enforcement agencies and community members.

Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom stated, “Each August this Office proudly joins in support of National Night Out, a great opportunity to for law enforcement and the community to gather together and to continue to foster good relationships. We urge all Rhode Islanders to take the opportunity to share a few minutes with your local law enforcement agency at this year’s events.”

National Night Out is an annual campaign that seeks to build partnerships between law enforcement and communities, promoting safer neighborhoods. The event takes place on the first Tuesday of August in most areas of the country and involves millions of participants nationwide.

The program began in 1984 with funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance within the U.S. Department of Justice. It is managed by the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting neighborhood watch programs across the United States. More information about National Night Out can be found at https://natw.org/.

Local law enforcement agencies coordinate these events along with trained volunteers. Activities include block parties, cookouts, festivals, parades, safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, and visits from emergency personnel. The purpose is to unite neighbors under positive circumstances and send a message that they are working together for community safety.
