A Hammond resident, Kylin Sexton, 25, has been sentenced to time served after pleading guilty to possessing marijuana and cocaine hydrochloride. The sentencing took place on July 24, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown. Sexton will also serve three years of supervised release following his release from prison.
Court records show that the incident occurred on May 18, 2022. The Ponchatoula Police Department responded to a call about Sexton's cousin, Tyshon Coleman, allegedly possessing a firearm at a retail establishment. Officers located the vehicle in question and found both Coleman and Sexton inside.
Officers ordered Coleman to show his hands due to the complaint but he did not comply with their instructions. After removing him from the vehicle, police discovered a Glock Model 17 handgun with an extended magazine loaded with 30 rounds between the passenger seat and center console. The gun was equipped with a machine gun conversion device known as a Glock switch.
Coleman pleaded guilty to possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possession of a machine gun on September 19, 2024. He was sentenced to more than eight years in prison on December 19, 2024.
Police also found a green backpack on the floorboard where Sexton had been sitting. Inside the backpack were marijuana and cocaine hydrochloride packaged for distribution.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives worked alongside the New Orleans Police Department in investigating this case. Assistant United States Attorney Brittany Reed prosecuted the case as part of the Violent Crime/Strike Force Unit.
