Berkeley County man receives nearly 20-year sentence for drug and firearms offenses

Travis Jackson Latta, a 38-year-old resident of Martinsburg, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 235 months in federal prison after being convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute eutylone.

Authorities responded to a domestic violence call where Latta was found with a firearm. Due to his prior convictions—including kidnapping, strangulation, brandishing, attempted murder, domestic battery and assault, and unlawful restraint—Latta is legally barred from possessing firearms. In a separate incident, he was discovered with eutylone, also known as “Boot,” which he intended to distribute unlawfully.

Following his prison term, Latta will be subject to 15 years of supervised release.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher prosecuted the case for the government. The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force (a HIDTA-funded initiative); and the Martinsburg Police Department. U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the proceedings.
