Honduran national sentenced for illegal re-entry in Louisiana federal court

A Honduran national, Carlos Masariego Rosales, was sentenced in New Orleans after pleading guilty to illegally re-entering the United States following a prior deportation. The sentencing took place on July 22, 2025, before Chief United States District Judge Wendy B. Vitter.

Rosales, age 48, was located in Jefferson Parish around March 30, 2025. He had previously been deported to Honduras on November 20, 2006.

The court imposed a sentence of time served and one year of supervised release. Rosales was also ordered to pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice that coordinates resources to address illegal immigration and target criminal organizations through efforts such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

"Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell of the General Crimes Unit oversees the prosecution."
