The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia will participate in National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. The office announced it will join law enforcement partners and local communities at an event scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Orchard Manor in Charleston.
Other events marking National Night Out are also planned across the Southern District of West Virginia, including locations such as Beckley, Dunbar, Huntington, Parkersburg, and Ravenswood.
“National Night Out is a great way to connect with the communities we serve,” said Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston. “We make our streets safer when we build trust, strengthen relationships, and foster cooperation.”
National Night Out is an annual initiative aimed at strengthening partnerships between law enforcement and residents to help improve neighborhood safety. The event takes place in thousands of communities across the country on the first Tuesday of August.
The program began in 1984 with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance within the U.S. Department of Justice and is managed by the National Association of Town Watch, a non-profit group that oversees activities nationwide.
Local police departments and trained volunteers organize events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, youth activities, safety demonstrations and seminars during National Night Out. These gatherings are intended to unite neighbors and encourage collaboration to enhance community safety.
