A Brazilian national was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor for illegally re-entering the United States after being previously deported.
U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. imposed a sentence of time served on Americo Lopes-Da Silva, 37, following his guilty plea on May 20, 2025.
Court records indicate that on April 7, 2025, a U.S. Border Patrol Agent from the Rangeley Border Patrol Station conducted a routine patrol and ran the license plate of a Massachusetts-registered white van. The agent discovered that the van’s owner had entered the United States in 2018 and overstayed their visa. After stopping the vehicle for further investigation, the agent identified two occupants: the driver and passenger Lopes-Da Silva. Both individuals admitted they were in the country without legal authorization. They were transported to the Border Patrol station where it was confirmed that Lopes-Da Silva had been ordered removed and deported from the United States in 2021.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Border Patrol.
