U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged an immigration detainer against Javier Lopez Tinoco, a 20-year-old Honduran national, following his arrest for attempted murder in Baldwin County, Alabama. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) made the announcement after local authorities charged Lopez Tinoco with allegedly stabbing a victim three times during a soccer game in Summerdale on July 19, 2025. He was apprehended by police on July 29, 2025, and found to be in possession of four small bags of cocaine.
ICE filed the detainer to keep Lopez Tinoco in custody while criminal and removal proceedings are pending. This action is intended to prevent his release into the community.
Lopez Tinoco had previously been arrested by local police in 2024 for public intoxication.
“A man was nearly KILLED because this Honduran illegal alien decided to go on a stabbing spree. These are the types of criminal illegal aliens ICE is working to get off our streets and out of our country,” said Assistant Secretary McLaughlin. “ICE lodged a detainer to ensure this criminal will never be loose in American neighborhoods again. President Trump and Secretary Noem will continue to put the safety of Americans FIRST.”
DHS stated that its law enforcement agencies work daily to protect communities from similar incidents. Victims impacted by crimes committed by individuals with immigration violations can seek assistance through the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office at 1-855-488-6423.
