U.S. Attorney's Office joins local communities for National Night Out events

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania will participate in National Night Out events on August 5, 2025, joining law enforcement partners and community members across several counties. Assistant United States Attorneys and staff are scheduled to attend events in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Dauphin, and Lebanon Counties to engage with residents and share information about departmental initiatives.

National Night Out is a yearly campaign that aims to build relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. The event is held on the first Tuesday of August in many areas throughout the country. According to organizers, millions of people take part in activities designed to promote safer neighborhoods.

Acting United States Attorney John Gurganus stated, “The U.S. Attorney’s Office is proud to join our law enforcement partners and communities across the district for National Night Out. It’s a great opportunity to come together and continue to strengthen relationships and meet the citizens we serve.”

Established in 1984 with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance at the U.S. Department of Justice, National Night Out is run by the National Association of Town Watch, a non-profit organization. The program relies on local law enforcement coordination and volunteer efforts.

Typical activities during National Night Out include block parties, cookouts, festivals, parades, safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, and visits from emergency personnel. Organizers say these gatherings help send a message that neighbors are united in their efforts to maintain safe communities.
