Illegal reentrant sentenced for firearm possession under federal initiatives in Louisville

An individual from Mexico, Alvaro Mandujano-Rodriguez, has been sentenced to two years and two months in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States and unlawful possession of firearms. The sentencing took place on July 31, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Mandujano-Rodriguez, age 32, was found guilty of being in the United States after having previously been denied admission and deported on November 29, 2013. On October 7, 2023, he was discovered unlawfully possessing an AR-15 rifle of unknown make and model as well as a MAG Tactical Systems MG-G4 multi-caliber rifle and ammunition. As an alien illegally present in the country, he is prohibited from possessing firearms.

U.S. Attorney Kyle G. Bumgarner stated: “Thanks to the strong work of this federal-local partnership, another dangerous illegal immigrant has been removed from the streets of Louisville.”

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD). Assistant U.S. Attorney Mac Shannon prosecuted the case.

This conviction falls under Operation Take Back America—a national initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations through collaboration between agencies such as the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Additionally, this prosecution is part of the Prohibited Firearm Possessor Initiative (PFP), which brings together local law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to reduce violent crime related to firearm offenses. In January 2024, Louisville Metro launched a gun crime reduction effort focusing on investigating and prosecuting cases involving illegal firearm possession. The PFP includes participation from LMPD, ATF, Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky.

There is no parole in the federal system.
