The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky is participating in National Night Out events in Louisville, Kentucky, today. Representatives from the office will join law enforcement and community members at several gatherings across the city.
U.S. Attorney Bumgarner said, “Our prosecutors and staff come to the office everyday with one goal in mind: to serve the citizens of Louisville and the broader Western District. We look forward to participating in National Night Out to get to know those we serve and have some fun in the process.”
Staff from the U.S. Attorney's Office will be present at Louisville Metro Police Department events throughout various neighborhoods, providing information on crime prevention. A resource booth will be set up at Walker Warren Park during LMPD's Eighth Division event in Douglas Hills.
National Night Out is a yearly campaign that seeks to strengthen ties between law enforcement and communities with the aim of improving neighborhood safety. The initiative involves millions of participants across thousands of communities nationwide on the first Tuesday of August.
Established in 1984 with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance under the U.S. Department of Justice, National Night Out is managed by the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit organization (https://natw.org/). Local police departments coordinate these events with help from trained volunteers, offering activities such as block parties, cookouts, safety demonstrations, youth programs, and more.
The campaign emphasizes unity among neighbors as they work together with law enforcement agencies to enhance public safety.
