An Edon, Ohio man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison after pleading guilty to firearms violations. Dannie Wireman, 44, received a 77-month sentence from U.S. District Judge James R. Knepp following his guilty plea in March to charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and receipt or possession of an unregistered firearm. He will also serve three years of supervised release after completing his prison term. The sentence was handed down on July 30, 2025.
Wireman had previously been convicted on burglary charges in Indiana in 2009, which made it illegal for him to possess firearms. According to court documents, investigators discovered that Wireman used Facebook to conduct transactions involving firearms despite this prohibition. His online activity included trading guns for various items such as a beagle hunting dog, a snowmobile, and a racecar by communicating with other users and posting photographs of his inventory.
Federal agents executed a search warrant at Wireman's residence on March 6, 2024, where they seized 22 long guns—including a sawed-off shotgun—and assorted ammunition.
The investigation involved multiple agencies: the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Toledo Field Office, the Williams County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Dexter L. Phillips prosecuted the case for the Northern District of Ohio.
