Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice

A Salvadoran national living in Chelsea, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty to reentering the United States illegally after being deported. Rigoberto Hernandez Mancia, 34, admitted to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. U.S. District Court Judge Julia E. Kobick set sentencing for October 29, 2025.

Hernandez Mancia was previously deported from the United States on July 31, 2024. He returned to the country without permission sometime after his removal. In June 2025, a federal grand jury indicted him.

The charge carries a possible sentence of up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. After serving any sentence imposed by the court, Hernandez Mancia is subject to deportation again. Sentencing decisions are made by federal judges following the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

“United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allegra Flamm of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.”
