Hardin County man indicted for carjacking and firearms offenses

A Silsbee resident, Justin Keith Colley, 37, has been indicted on charges of carjacking and firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Colley faces a three-count indictment from a federal grand jury, which includes charges of carjacking, brandishing a firearm during a violent crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to the indictment, Colley allegedly used a firearm to commit carjacking on June 20, 2025. Authorities say he had previously been convicted of a felony and was not allowed to own or possess firearms.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and addressing violent crime through coordinated efforts involving Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

If found guilty, Colley could face up to life in federal prison.

The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives along with the Silsbee Police Department and Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Reynaldo P. Morin is prosecuting the case.

“A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” according to the release.
