A Guatemalan national has been sentenced to four months in prison for unlawfully reentering the United States after being previously removed. The sentencing took place on August 1, 2025, in Jackson, Mississippi.
Court documents show that Mario Armando Crisostomo-Crisostomo, 27, was discovered by law enforcement on April 28, 2025, in Leake County during a traffic stop where he was found driving without a license or insurance. Authorities determined that Crisostomo-Crisostomo had been removed from the U.S. in 2018 after a conviction for illegal entry in the Southern District of Texas.
Crisostomo-Crisostomo was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 6, 2025.
Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi Patrick A. Lemon stated: "Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi, Patrick A. Lemon and Eric P. DeLaune, Special Agent-in-Charge for Homeland Security Investigations in New Orleans, Louisiana; and Brian Acuna, Acting Field Office Director of ICE/ERO in New Orleans, made the announcement."
The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney C. Brett Grantham.
Homeland Security Investigations led the investigation as part of Operation Take Back America (https://www.justice.gov/dag/media/1393746/dl?inline). This nationwide initiative uses resources from multiple Department of Justice programs to address illegal immigration and target criminal organizations.
Operation Take Back America brings together efforts from programs such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) to coordinate action against transnational criminal organizations and violent crime.
