Honduran national sentenced for unlawful reentry after prior removals

A Honduran national has been sentenced to nearly six months in prison for unlawfully reentering the United States after being previously removed. Johny Antonio Nunez-Meza, 45, was sentenced on August 6, 2025, to five months and 23 days of incarceration. Upon completion of his sentence, he will be transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Court documents state that Nunez-Meza was discovered by law enforcement in Hinds County on or about February 2, 2025, following an arrest for burglary. Authorities determined he was unlawfully present in the country. He had previously been removed from the United States multiple times and was convicted of illegal entry on August 21, 2012.

Nunez-Meza was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 20, 2025, and later pleaded guilty on May 2, 2025.

"Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi, Patrick A. Lemon and Eric P. DeLaune, Special Agent-in-Charge for Homeland Security Investigations in New Orleans, Louisiana; and Brian Acuna, Acting Field Office Director of ICE/ERO in New Orleans, made the announcement."

The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney C. Brett Grantham.

Homeland Security Investigations led the investigation as part of Operation Take Back America (https://www.justice.gov/dag/media/1393746/dl?inline), a nationwide effort that brings together resources from the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration and target transnational criminal organizations through initiatives such as OCDETFs and Project Safe Neighborhood.
