The United States has expressed support for the General Border Committee meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand and setting up an ASEAN observation mechanism.
President Donald Trump and Secretary of State have called on both Cambodia and Thailand to adhere to their commitments to end the conflict. “President Trump and I expect the governments of Cambodia and Thailand to fully honor their commitments to end this conflict. We remain grateful to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his leadership and for hosting the ceasefire process, a direct result of his willingness to co-organize with the United States the July 28 Special Meeting to address the conflict. We look forward to supporting Malaysia, ASEAN, and both countries as this process moves forward,” said the Secretary of State.
Malaysia played a key role by hosting the recent ceasefire talks, following its cooperation with the United States in organizing a special meeting on July 28 aimed at addressing tensions between Cambodia and Thailand.
The U.S. reaffirmed its intention to assist Malaysia, ASEAN, Cambodia, and Thailand as efforts continue toward lasting peace in the region.
