Honduran man pleads guilty to illegal re-entry in Louisiana federal court

A Honduran national, Abraham Ramirez-Cantor, age 40, pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry into the United States after having been previously removed. The plea was entered in federal court in New Orleans before United States District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo, who sentenced Ramirez-Cantor to time served.

Court documents show that Ramirez-Cantor was deported from the United States on November 21, 2005. He was later found in the Eastern District of Louisiana on April 3, 2025. Authorities stated that he had not received permission from either the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to return.

Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson acknowledged law enforcement efforts: "Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this matter." Assistant United States Attorney Duane A. Evans is leading the prosecution for this case.

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration and targeting criminal organizations through coordinated resources from various programs such as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
