New Orleans postal worker pleads guilty to mail theft

A New Orleans woman has pleaded guilty to theft of mail by a postal employee, according to an announcement from Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson. On August 5, 2025, Kanesha Florence, 28, entered her plea in federal court.

Court records state that on February 6, 2023, Florence unlawfully stole and removed a greeting card containing an Amazon Gift Card that was intended to be delivered by mail.

Florence could face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. Sentencing is scheduled for November 4, 2025 before Chief United States District Judge Wendy B. Vitter.

The United States Postal Service - Office of the Inspector General and the United States Postal Inspection Service investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell of the General Crimes Unit is prosecuting.
