Timothy T. Duax U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa

A Honduran citizen has been sentenced to 92 days in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after previously being deported. Yoni Omar Alvarado-Gomes, also known as Jhonny Ramos Campos, age 35, pleaded guilty on May 28, 2025, to one count of being found in the United States after illegal reentry.

According to court records, Alvarado-Gomes admitted that he had been deported from the United States before and returned without government permission. He was removed from the country in both 2009 and 2013. Immigration officials discovered him at the Tama County Jail on April 26, 2025, following his arrest on state charges related to driving without a license and speeding.

The sentencing took place in Cedar Rapids before United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams. In addition to his prison term, Alvarado-Gomes will serve a one-year term of supervised release after completing his sentence. There is no parole available in the federal system.

Alvarado-Gomes remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transferred to immigration authorities.

Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN)."

Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep prosecuted this case, which was investigated by Enforcement and Removal Operations of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
