U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry seized methamphetamine valued at more than $433,000 during an inspection at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge on August 9.
According to CBP, a U.S. citizen driving a 2011 Ford van was referred for secondary inspection. Officers used a canine unit and nonintrusive inspection technology to examine the vehicle. They found three packages containing 47.09 pounds of alleged methamphetamine hidden among the driver’s personal belongings.
Port Director Alberto Flores commented on the incident: “I commend our CBP officers for their exceptional vigilance and commitment to safeguarding our nation. Their dedication and keen attention to detail were instrumental in intercepting these dangerous narcotics before they could harm our communities.”
CBP officials said that both the narcotics and the vehicle were seized. Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested the driver, who is now under investigation.
CBP describes itself as America’s largest law enforcement organization and the world’s first unified border management agency, with over 65,000 personnel working across various environments to protect national security and facilitate lawful trade and travel.
