The U.S. Departments of Labor, Commerce, and Education have released a joint report titled "America’s Talent Strategy: Equipping American Workers for the Golden Age." The document presents a new federal workforce development plan that aligns with President Trump’s economic agenda. According to the agencies, the strategy aims to prepare workers for opportunities created by efforts to reindustrialize the country and adapt to an economy increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

The strategy is built on five pillars. These include expanding work-based learning models such as Registered Apprenticeships, improving worker mobility through personalized support and AI-powered tools, streamlining federal workforce programs for better access and efficiency, enhancing accountability in federally funded programs by measuring outcomes more rigorously, and fostering flexibility and innovation with a focus on AI literacy and rapid reskilling.

Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer stated, “I’m grateful to Secretaries Lutnick and McMahon for working with the Labor Department to develop this critical, forward-thinking strategy, which lays the foundation for the future of our nation. Whether it’s expanding proven workforce models like Registered Apprenticeships or improving AI readiness, at President Trump’s direction, we have developed a concrete plan to put the American Worker First. Together, we will ensure our workforce is prepared to fill the hundreds of thousands of good-paying, in-demand jobs created by the President’s bold efforts to restore America as the world’s leading economic superpower.”

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick added, “We are investing in the American worker like never before to deliver on President Trump’s bold vision of rebuilding American industry and dominating new technological frontiers. This strategy will revolutionize our workforce and unleash the power of the American worker.”

U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon commented, “President Trump has set an ambitious and bold strategy to reindustrialize America, and to realign education to better serve our evolving workforce. I am proud to stand with Secretaries Chavez-DeRemer and Lutnick to reinvigorate industry-driven standards, cross-agency integrated systems, and skills-based education pipelines to support in-demand career development. By empowering Americans with new career pathways and access to innovative workforce-based programs, we are confident these reforms will build the next great American workforce.”

The full report outlines steps such as aligning educational programs more closely with employer needs in key industries; identifying required skills for high-demand jobs; integrating federal resources at state levels; increasing transparency around program effectiveness; promoting adaptability among workers; prioritizing training related to artificial intelligence; creating routes into technology-focused roles; and piloting innovative approaches aimed at quickly reskilling employees.
