A Shiprock resident, Larence Cambridge, was sentenced to 102 months in federal prison for his involvement in a drive-by shooting that took place on January 9, 2025. Cambridge, who is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, fired multiple shots from his own car at another vehicle carrying two people along U.S. Highway 64 near Shiprock, New Mexico. The gunfire struck the vehicle several times and left one occupant with serious injuries before Cambridge fled the scene.
After completing his prison term, Cambridge will serve five years of supervised release and pay over $13,000 in restitution. There is no parole in the federal system.
U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Philip Russell, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced the sentencing.
The investigation was conducted by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with help from the Navajo Police Department and Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Probasco prosecuted the case.
