Kisean Paul Anderson, known as Sean Kingston, was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison after being convicted of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud. The sentencing took place before U.S. District Judge David S. Leibowitz in Miami. Anderson’s mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, received a five-year federal prison sentence on July 23 for her involvement in the same scheme.
According to evidence presented at trial, from April 2023 through March 2024, Anderson contacted luxury merchandise vendors via social media to arrange purchases of items such as a bulletproof Escalade, high-end watches, and a large LED television. Sellers were invited to his homes in Broward County where Anderson used his celebrity status and offers of social media promotion or referrals involving other celebrities to build trust.
When it came time for payment, Anderson or Turner provided fake wire receipts as proof of payment; these documents were obtained by Turner. No legitimate funds were transferred for most transactions. Some victims never received any payment while others were compensated only after pursuing legal action or contacting law enforcement.
U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida stated: “This case demonstrates that no one is above the law—not even celebrities who use their fame to prey upon others.” Special Agent in Charge Rafael Barros of the U.S. Secret Service (USSS), Miami Field Office added: “The USSS will continue to aggressively investigate financial crimes and hold those responsible accountable.” Sheriff Gregory Tony of the Broward Sheriff’s Office said: “We are committed to protecting our community from fraud schemes regardless of who is involved.”
The investigation was conducted by the USSS Miami Field Office and the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Marc Anton and Trevor Jones prosecuted the case.
