CBP officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry in Texas seized nine weapons and 15 magazines during outbound operations, according to a statement released by the agency. The seizure took place on August 14 when officers stopped a 1998 Ford E-350 Econoline van heading to Mexico at the Del Rio International Bridge.
The vehicle and its utility trailer were referred for additional screening, which included a nonintrusive inspection system scan and examination by a canine unit. During the subsequent physical search, officers found the weapons and magazines concealed among commodities inside the vehicle.
Port Director Liliana Flores commented on the operation: “This reflects the commitment from our dedicated officers, who work tirelessly to detect and interdict threats, ensuring that our communities on both sides of the border remain safe.”
Following the discovery, CBP’s Office of Field Operations seized all weapons, ammunition, magazines, and weapon components. The Texas Department of Public Safety arrested the driver and has begun a criminal investigation into the incident.
