Stephon Martin, a 25-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., was found guilty on August 14, 2025, for his involvement in the armed robbery and assault of his former employer. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith.
A jury in Superior Court convicted Martin of several charges, including robbery while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault with significant bodily injury while armed, and felony destruction of property. Judge Judith Pipe has scheduled Martin’s sentencing for November 7, 2025.
According to case details, Martin had previously worked as a cashier at the victim’s tobacco store in Northwest Washington, D.C. After being laid off due to budgetary issues on October 18, 2024, Martin attacked his former employer. He beat the victim for several minutes before taking cash from the victim's pocket and leaving the premises. Approximately thirty minutes later, he returned using an employee key he had not surrendered and assaulted the victim again. This time he used a wooden board to strike the victim multiple times and forced him to hand over more money from the cash register. Martin also took a shelving unit containing merchandise worth several thousand dollars when he left.
U.S. Attorney Pirro and Chief Smith commended those involved in investigating and prosecuting the case from both the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
They stated: “In announcing the conviction, U.S. Attorney Pirro and Chief Smith commended the work of those investigating the case from the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
