The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the arrest of several individuals in Washington, D.C., as part of a recent law enforcement operation aimed at addressing violent crime in the city. The initiative is part of President Trump’s stated effort to increase public safety in the nation’s capital.
“President Trump was clear: he will make DC safe and beautiful again,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “In less than a week, ICE and CBP arrested gang members, kidnappers, drug traffickers, and other violent thugs. We will support the re-establishment of law and order and public safety, so Americans can feel safe in our nation’s capital.”
According to DHS, among those apprehended were individuals identified as gang members or previously convicted for crimes such as assault, kidnapping, burglary, drug offenses, larceny, smuggling heroin, escaping federal custody, and commercialized sexual offenses. The arrests included persons from El Salvador, Venezuela, Guatemala, Nigeria, and Mexico.
DHS reported that hundreds of law enforcement resources were deployed during this operation in Washington D.C.
