A Rosedale man was sentenced to 20 months and 20 days in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. U.S. District Judge James K. Bredar issued the sentence to Alfredo Carreon-Lopez, 39, on Tuesday.

Carreon-Lopez, a Mexican national, previously pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a minor in Baltimore City Circuit Court in August 2021. According to evidence presented during sentencing, Carreon-Lopez was convicted of sexually abusing a six-year-old child.

Following his conviction, Carreon-Lopez was removed from the United States and deported to Mexico on October 5, 2021. Law enforcement later located him in Baltimore City on September 15, 2023. Authorities confirmed that he had not obtained permission to reenter the country.

"U.S. Attorney Hayes praised ICE-ERO for their work in the investigation. Ms. Hayes also thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Reema Sood who prosecuted the federal case."

The case highlights ongoing efforts by federal authorities to enforce immigration laws and prosecute individuals who reenter the country after deportation for serious offenses.
